Developments and Related Actions

Over the past 24 years, the RAINN organization has accomplished many goals and has achieved various milestones.

Some achievements include:

  • RAINN is putting on their fourth annual 5k race.
    • This race is about raising money and awareness for the organization and sexual assault help/prevention. This race is also an event in support of all the survivors of sexual assault in the world. The race, Lace Up for RAINN, is taking place in Washington D.C. on May 20, 2017. However, people from all over the world can participate in RAINN’s “virtual race”
    • To participate, make a local team, or simply donate money, you can do so here: https://fundraise.rainn.org/events/lace-up-for-rainn/e87401

  • RAINN has led more than 100 groups to secure passage of the Justice for All Reauthorization Act of 2016
    • This act amends things from the Justice for All of 2004 Act, Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003, Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968
    • This act also makes significant other changes like changes in allocation of funding
  • RAINN has backed up a new bill that protects athletes from sexual abuse
    • The bill was introduced on March 6, 2017 by a team of senators in which RAINN proudly endorsed. Since then the organization still continues to endorse this bill in hopes that it will be passed
    • This bill would change the way sporting organizations prevent/respond to incidents of sexual violence

  • RAINN has partnered with a company called Rapid SOS to create an app called Haven that provides individuals faster access to emergency services
    • This app has the ability to send important information to 911, making it useful in situations where speaking is dangerous
      • “Can’t Speak” function includes services such as text messages, GPS location, type of emergency, and medical/demographic data to emergency services
    • You can find more information about the app and its functions here: https://www.rainn.org/news/rainn-partners-rapidsos-improve-cell-phone-access-911

  • Daniel Gillies – actor, writer and producer
    • Built a fundraising campaign by designing/selling t-shirts (“No One Stands Alone in the RAINN”) in which all profits were donated to the organization
