The Culture and Global Health lab is a collective of faculty and student researchers who study various global health topics through a cultural and biocultural lens. The lab is run by medical and biocultural anthropologist Lesley Jo Weaver at the University of Oregon.
Our research uses mixed method approaches to understand the social determinants of health, including ethnography, questionnaires, blood biomarkers, and anthropometrics. These methods allow us to explore how experiences of adversity stemming from discrimination, poverty, and social marginalization “get under the skin” to directly and indirectly shape health. Our work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, The Fulbright Hays Foundation, the Society for Psychological Anthropology, and the American Institute of Indian Studies.
