FAQs

What is it like being part of the UO Club Soccer Program?

The UO Club Sports program consists of a community of athletes devoted to their sport. Club sports allow students to play their sport at a competitive level, and is a great median point between the D-1 level and an intramural experience. Club sports teams often have a league near, or at the UO during their respective seasons and also travel regionally and nationally to tournaments to compete. Specifically, the UO Club Soccer program has two teams: Gold and Green. Both the Gold and Green teams compete in the same league during the fall. However, the Gold team players travel to national and regional tournaments to compete at that level, whereas the Green team does not. By having two teams, our club is able to incorporate more members, with each team having around 25 women.

What kind of experience do I need to join the team?

We do not require any certain skill level or skill tests. However, almost all players played high school soccer and competitive club soccer before coming to the team.

What does the time commitment look like?

The time commitment for both teams varies each term. For fall term, the Gold team trains three times a week, and the Green team trains two times a week. Both teams also play around 4-5 games during the course of fall term on the weekends. In addition to these games, the Gold team also travels two separate weekends for the Regional tournament (middle of October) and for the National tournament (around Thanksgiving). For winter term, both teams train twice a week starting around week 4. Both teams travel to an OSU tournament during February. As for Spring term, both teams train twice a week and travel to a tournament in California.

If you are stressed or concerned about managing this schedule along with a college course load, many team members are a part of outside organizations (sorority life, campus jobs, other clubs) and can lend a hand! Being a part of our team and pursuing other aspects of college is very manageable.

What will happen to the 2020-2021 season because of COVID-19?

Unfortunately, our regional soccer league has been cancelled for the Fall 2020 term due to COVID-19. We are hoping for a spring season, but plans are still yet to be determined. Additionally, we are still waiting to hear if we are allowed to practice and how club sports will run in the fall. More updates on this will be coming!

When are tryouts?

Tryouts are usually held during week 1 of Fall term (Monday-Thursday 6-8 pm) and requires a $20 tryout fee. We also have a daily-doubles (morning and afternoon practices) schedule during the week prior to school starting. We encourage anyone who is interested in our club to attend daily-doubles to get a feel for our team and dust off your boots! Daily-Doubles are run by captains and tryouts are run by our coaching team.

What are the quarterly dues for joining a team?

The dues for the both teams range from $300-$600 a term depending on any travel that takes place. Dues are determined by each team and charged quarterly.

When are practices?

For Fall and Spring term, practices take place from 6-8 AM. For winter term, teams practice from 7-9 pm. Times are subject to change depending on the field space available.

NOTE: Coming from a club soccer member, morning practices are not as challenging as they may seem! It also ensures that every player is available and does not have to skip practice for class.
