Ewha Women’s University

I had a free day to myself so I went out on a journey to go to Ewha Woman’s University! This is the university my mom attended for four years in college and then four years after doing ministry. This was one of the recommended places to go (through my google search), because it has a beautiful campus and a lot of good women’s shopping nearby.

I was pretty fortunate too because the weather was perfect! Not too hot, but still sunny and breezy.

My absolute favorite were these stairs! Along the sides inside were restaurants and shopping places, while on the stairs were places to sit and hang out. People were reading, eating, and taking lots of pictures. Here is the view from the bottom (left), and then from the top (right). I love how you can see the city and sky!

The campus was very green and artsy. Here is some buildings, the museum, and a church.

Afterwards, I went and walked around to do some shopping. You can see it getting darker as the night goes on. I saw the Line Friends Store, the chinese version of Kakao Friends. I am unfamiliar with the characters, but the store looked a lot like the Kakao Friends store with the same giant plushes. This company must make a lot of money off of this..

The street shopping here was so nice! Lots of cute women’s clothes, and just racks of them for 10,000 or 5,000. Because of the women’s college nearby, it is a popular place that is marketed towards girl fashion/makeup/accessories.

The pretty pastel colors going to the subway on the way back. 🙂

Kakao Friends

My first day in Korea and I wanted to visit this infamous Kakao Friends store in Gangnam. I was surprised to see how huge it is! I think Koreans are obsessed with these kakao characters..

Characters, assemble!

Massive characters are really just for picture taking opportunities.

This pillow was $90!

There was also Kakao pajamas, magnets, toothbrushes, towels,  jewelry, umbrellas, cups, underwear, and anything else you could need.

The third floor is a cafe, complete with Kakao drinks, macaroons, cakes, and more.

I only ended up buying a couple stickers and a fun magnet but it was really fun to see the store!

출발! Dallas, Texas -> Seoul, Korea

From Dallas to Toronto to Incheon, I finally made it! I rode Air Canada first and then transferred to Korean Air.

Korean Air was a fancier flight, complete with mini toothbrush/toothpaste kit and paper foot slippers to walk around in. Here is one of the meals, 비빔밥 (bibimbab), that I wasn’t hungry enough to enjoy. As international flights try to adjust you to the time change they do weird things like serve you dinner at 3pm and turn off the lights at 4pm, trying to convince your body it is nighttime. From all of the traveling and lack of sleep, my body was convinced! Slept for half the ride and watched movies during the rest.

After getting through customs, waiting a long time for my check in bag that never arrived, and filling out paperwork for said bag, I met my aunt and cousin at Incheon Airport. They took me back to their apartment where I’ll stay for about a week until I head off to Hanyang. I forced myself to stay up until 8pm (which meant me staying up until 6am, Dallas time) and then passed out. Slept 10 hours and seemingly conquered jet lag.

I spent this week before school exploring Seoul, shopping until my feet hurt, and eating a lot more than I should have. It was exciting to have a bit more of summer left to play!
