The answers to this pregunta greatly varied. Sin embargo, most of the interviewees no saben qué la palabra Chicano meant. All but two of them were familiar con todos los diferentes términos.

Era muy interesante porque none of the students identifican como chicano. Two identified as Mexican-American, one como Latino, y uno as Hispanic.

Sólo sis personas felt that being bilingüe enhanced your intelligence. They felt that being able to have “two sets of dictionaries in your mind” es muy difícil, pero also incredible. The remaining four personas did not have strong reasons para esta pregunta. One said que es just like “taking an extra class in school.”

The answers to this question varied. A few answered it in this way “a way to speak with someone else who is latino and lives in the United States”. Mientras others thought that it was a type of slang. One even said that es una película con Adam Sandler.

The answers on this question were split. Las personas que dijeron sí to Spanglish being a valid form of communication felt that they had heard mucha gente code-switch and “even though it is not ‘oficial’ it is still a way that people can get their point across.” Por otro lado, the people who said no were not as accepting of this phenomenon. A few said that it was just “slang and it is improper and shouldn’t be used in a formal setting.” One of the estudiantes said that it is an “attempt to learn Spanish, but [those who speak it] lack the necessary skills to learn the actual language.”
