Veterans and Family Student Association

Please help us with next week’s Veterans Week events by signing up to be a volunteer during one of the 3 major parts:

1) On Veterans Day, Volunteers are needed to read the names of the service men and women who have fallen during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom for this year’s Remembrance Day National Roll Call.

Students, faculty, staff, and community members are needed to read names.

The Roll Call will take place in the EMU Amphitheater and each reader will be given a 15-minute time slot beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending around 5:00 p.m. Sign-up to be Volunteer: http://uodos.uoregon.edu/nationalrollcall.aspx

2) We are looking for help staffing the postcard-writing table Monday through Wednesday of that week from 10 am – 4 pm.

3) Please help set up chairs in Agate Hall on Monday, November 9th from 2-4 pm.

Join us for the VFSA tailgate before the Ducks play Stanford in Saturday’s Football game.

The tailgate is graciously hosted be fellow vet Fred. Please bring a side dish and your drink of choice. VFSA president Matti will cook meats for us.

Our first Thursday Fun Day is going to take place at Putters in Eugene for dinner and laser tag on a self-pay basis.
It is open to all veterans and their family members. Please feel free to bring a friend.

Join two of the west coast CIA recruiters who are returning to the University of Oregon campus on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 to talk about exciting career opportunities (e.g. paid internships) the CIA has to offer.  The info session is open to all student veterans and takes place in our center. Snacks will be provided.

We would like to include student veteran in the Veterans Day slide show that will be shown during the Veterans Day lunch in Agate Hall (details for the event to come soon).

Want a FREE Football Ticket to the Ducks vs. Stanford game next Saturday, November 1, 2014?

For the second year in a row, we have secured 40 FREE student football tickets for current student veterans and family members.
How do you get one?
Simply stop by the Veteran Center (EMU South) and talk to one of our officers or veteran coordinator Stacey to sign up BY THIS FRIDAY (Oct 24) at 12PM.

Note: You MUST be a CURRENTLY enrolled UO student with a valid 95-number in order to receive the ticket as it will be preloaded onto your student ID.

Want to make a difference by volunteering your time?

Join us next weekend as we assemble meals from donated food to pass out to local homeless camps. The first homeless camp is a Veterans homeless camp with about 17 veterans. We will assemble these meals for about 3 hours.

If there is interest, we will be getting dinner afterwards as a group.

Want to tailgate with other vets before the Huskies game this weekend?
Join your fellow Vet Fred for a tailgating event this Saturday before the Ducks play the Washington Huskies. BYOB and a dish to share.
