2015-2016
Hannah Andersen is a second year Teaching Fellow and MFA candidate at the University of Oregon. After receiving her BFA in Dance from Western Washington University, she founded the dance program at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, Washington, teaching modern technique, and producing annual concerts. Concurrently, Hannah spent three years as an adjunct instructor at Western Washington University and became a Comprehensively Certified Pilates Instructor. She recently presented new work at Dance and Dialogue in Eugene, OR and performed for University of Oregon Boeklehide Award winner Michelle Boulé (NY) in the 2015 staging of “light.white.” She has performed with Bellingham Repertory Dance Company, It Must Have Been Violet Dance Productions, and for Susan Haines, Wade Madsen Kraig “bopi” Patterson and the Seattle Opera. Recent teaching residencies include North Star Ballet (Fairbanks, AK) and Fidalgo Danceworks (Anacortes, WA). Hannah received the National Dance Education Organization’s 2015 Graduate Student Award with additional support awarded from UO Dance Research Fund. She is the 2015-2016 recipient of the Georgianne Teller Singer Dean’s Award for an Outstanding Dance Graduate Student.
Eduardo Anguiano is a sophomore dance major from Portland, Oregon. He has been teaching and performing color guard for over 5 years. He is also currently a member in the University of Oregon Color Guard team but has only began his dance training at the University of Oregon his freshman year, studying modern dance. Thus far, he has performed in the Faculty Dance Concert and the Spring Student Dance Concert. In addition to dancing, Ed has worked as light board operator as well as other aspects of production for various university dance productions. He joins UORDC this year as the production assistant and is very excited to go on tour with the company. Ed is a 2015-2016 recipient of the Lotta Carll Scholarship for Undergraduate Dance students.
Jimee Banks is a Junior Dance and Spanish major who started dancing at the age of eleven. She was born in Springfield, Oregon but spent the first 10 years of her life living in Cottage Grove, Oregon. After moving to Springfield, she spent the next seven years dancing on her middle and high school dance teams. The basis of her training was in jazz but she has developed a love for modern dance when she began at the University of Oregon. She has performed in student-choreographed works at the University in the past and is excited for the opportunity to perform with the UORDC and work with faculty and guest artists. Jimee plans on spending five weeks in Argentina studying Spanish and the art of Tango. Jimee is a 2015-2016 recipient of the Lotta Carll Scholarship for Undergraduate Dance students.
Corrina Chow is from Portland, Oregon and is a senior dance major, digital arts and business minor. Corrina began her dance training at the UO when she took her first modern dance class freshman year. She immediately switched her major from art to dance. Since then, she has performed in various concerts such as, annual faculty, winter loft, student concerts, and spring loft. This year, she performed in Brad Garner’s work at the American College Dance Association Conference in Wyoming -which was presented in the gala concert and present a piece in the Student Spring Dance Concert in May. She has been active in Dance Oregon and is a board member this year. Corrina plans to continue working hard to gain the proper experience and technique needed to become a dancer for the Walt Disney Company.
Sean Gilbert is a junior dance major from Milwaukie, OR. He was introduced to dance his senior year in high school through the OSAA Dance and Drill Association, and came to the University of Oregon to continue his exploration in dance. This past academic year he added a psychology minor with the hope to, in the future, provide an alternative outlet for at-risk youth through the arts. He has performed in multiple concerts such as the faculty dance concert and will be in it this year! Sean is honored to participate in the 2015-2016 University of Oregon Repertory Dance Company. He can’t wait to tour with the company around Oregon sharing the passion he has for dance. He is especially excited for the outreach program that coincides with his future career goals.
Bryant Henderson is a Graduate Teaching Fellow and MFA candidate in the UO Dance Department, where his research focuses on males’ experiences in collegiate dance. Bryant has studied extensively in numerous idioms including aerial dance. In 2010, Bryant received his BA in Dance from The University of Alabama. Bryant has worked with the Miss America Pageant, American Ballet Theatre, Broadway Dance Center, and several studios and universities. Bryant’s choreography has been seen throughout Alabama, at the American College Dance Festival, and in NYC. Bryant’s musical productions include Hair, and Wild Party. In NYC, Bryant performed with J. Chen Project, SYREN, and DEMA dance in venues including NY’s City Center, The Joyce SoHo, Times Square, and The Baryshnikov PAC. Bryant later joined Celebrity Cruises as a dancer and aerialist, and performed with AROVA Contemporary Ballet. In 2014, Bryant was the Assistant Director and Faculty member for the ABT Summer Intensive. Last summer, Bryant joined the faculty at the Boulder Jazz Dance Workshop in Colorado. He will rejoin BJDW this summer as the coordinator for their inaugural Commercial Dance Intensive.
Bryn Hlava began dancing at the age of three and is now in her senior year as a dance major. She has traveled to Italy, New York, and Philadelphia while dancing with Portland’s Jefferson Dancers and Urban Arts Dance Company. At the University of Oregon, she has performed with Dance Africa and in the Faculty Concerts, Graduate Lofts and Spring Student Dance Concerts. Bryn has studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance studying ballet, Gaga technique and improvisation with Summer Lee Rhatigan, Bobbi Jene Smith, and Alex Ketley. This past January, she attended a workshop with Shen Wei Dance Arts in New York City. She is honored to be presenting her work “boketto” at the 2016 Northwest Regional American College Dance Association Conference in Wyoming this spring. Many possibilities lie ahead as Bryn pursues a professional career in dance post-graduation. She would like to return to school down the line to study somatics and use movement to work with children with developmental disorders. Bryn is a 2015-2016 recipient of the Lotta Carll Scholarship for Undergraduate Dance students.
Brittani Holland is a senior dance major born and raised in Southern California She began dancing at six, and has studied jazz, ballet, hip-hop as well as theatre, drill team, and cheer. After experiencing her first modern dance class at Riverside Community College, she decided that it was the field that she would like to pursue. She moved to Portland and completed the Associate Arts Oregon Transfer degree from Portland Community College. At the UO, she performed in Faculty Dance Concerts, and was a company member of Dance Africa. She has attended American College Dance Association Conferences of 2012, 2015, and will be attending again in 2016 as a performer. Brittani is currently pursuing a minor in Art and Administration with a strong interest in advocating the importance of the dance within an inter-disciplinary education for children. This is Brittani’s first year as a member of UORDC, and she is greatly honored to dance among her friends and fellow dancers. Brittani is a 2015-2016 recipient of the Lotta Carll Scholarship for Undergraduate Dance students.
Lindsey Salfran, a native Floridian, and her husband moved to Eugene, OR in 2014 to begin pursuing her Masters of Fine Arts in Dance at the University of Oregon. She has spent over twenty years training in a variety of dance styles from ballet to salsa and received her Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Central Florida in 2008, with a Minor in Dance. She has over a decade of teaching experience and has been employed by top entertainment companies such as Walt Disney World and Royal Caribbean International. In 2014, she choreographed New Hope Christian College’s production of “Hairspray!” The Musical, and earned a UO Graduate Teaching Fellowship at the end of the 2015 school year. This past fall, Lindsey and her cohort, Bryant Henderson were selected to choreograph for the Dance 2016 Faculty Concert and created, “In the Pocket.” Pressing on with her thesis study of jazz dance pedagogy, Lindsey looks forward to more exploration, experimentation and expansion throughout the rest of her time at the University of Oregon.
Kaitlyn Sullivan was born and raised in Southern Oregon. She began taking dance classes in Medford at age five, and has trained in modern, ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop. She attended Crater Renaissance Academy and was heavily influenced by the dance and drama department and its director, Matthew Reynolds. It was here that Kaitlyn was introduced to UORDC, which led to her coming to the University of Oregon to major in dance. At UO, she has performed in both faculty and student concerts. She has also been a member of production teams for many concerts, and enjoys other performance aspects, such as lighting and sound design and managing props. She has many ideas of how she wishes to pursue dance in her future, but for now she hopes to continue learning a variety of dance styles and to continue her education in somatics.
