FSL Update from the Associate Dean of Students

Hello,

As we enter Week 5 of winter term, I felt it was important to reach out to members of the fraternity and sorority community to provide some educational information and share community expectations. We must continue to work together to keep our community safe.
Lane County is currently at an Extreme Risk Level. The State of Oregon has set the following restrictions:
• Gathering sizes for indoor or outdoor social events are to have a maximum of 6 people, with a recommended limit of 2 households.
• Face coverings are required indoors, AND outdoors if 6 feet distance cannot be maintained.
It is my expectation that all fraternity and sorority members comply with state mandates. We know how COVID-19 has already affected our families, friends, and community members. It is imperative that we all work together to stay safe and healthy.

As we have done the two previous terms, I want to provide expectations for how winter term will look for our FSL community moving forward:
• The moratorium on all FSL affiliated in-person social events continues through winter term. This includes chapter events and events at live-out houses. We will continue to revisit this each term.
• All recruitment activities, including Bid Day, are to be virtual.
• Chapter meetings are to be held remotely.
• Large gatherings are a risk to public health. Your organization and individual students participating in them will be subject to student conduct actions if gatherings violate any state law, including those listed above. Again, this includes social gatherings at live-out houses.
• Chapters are encouraged to continue their philanthropic and service efforts, however these should all be done remotely. Food sales and delivery are not allowed.
• FSL members, as well as all UO students, are expected to cooperate with the UO Cares Team and Lane County Public Health in their contact tracing efforts. Failure to cooperate may result in action by the Office of Student Conduct.

Please know the UO is here to partner with you. We have arranged for COVID-19 testing weekly for all students, with a specific number of tests reserved for the FSL community each week. You must reserve a testing time in advance. For more information about testing, and to sign up, please visit the FSL blog.

UO is also working to acquire vaccines for our community, and that information will be shared with you as soon as we have it. While this pandemic has gone on longer than any of us expected, we have to remain vigilant in our efforts to stay safe. I want to thank you for continuing to put your own health and safety and that of your fellow sisters and brothers, and the Eugene community, at the forefront.

Be Well,
Marcus
