Spring 2022 Meetings

Posted in Meeting Archive

Welcome back, everyone! We hope your spring break went well and are looking forward to seeing you all again at ASU meetings this term. We have some exciting meetings and events planned for the club, including a Spring Panel, Q&A with Sarah Hamrick, and more, so be on the lookout for announcements on our social media.

Week 1: The Side by Side Project

For our first meeting, we watched a short interview with Colin from the Side by Side Project. We had a great discussion about identity, belonging, race, family, and more with both returning and new members. We hope to return to these films later on in the term or even next school year. You can watch the films online at Side by Side Project.

Week 3: Attachment Styles & Adoption

Following a discussion we had at our last meeting, we discussed attachment styles and how they relate to our identities as adoptees more in depth at this week’s meeting. We took a couple of quizzes (from Attachment Project and NPR) to see what our own styles were and then had a conversation about what we thought about our results.

Week 6: ASU Potluck and Spring Panel

This was when spring term got busy! One of our co-presidents hosted a potluck this week, where people brought yummy food to eat and got to know each other more casually. We also hosted one of our larger events this term, the ASU Spring Panel 2022, featuring Dr. Lesley-Anne Pittard, Susan Soonkeum Cox, and Moirhian Martin.

Week 7: Side-by-Side Project, redux

Since this was the busy season, we decided to revisit the Side by Side Project from Week 1. We watched another interview with a South Korean adoptee and discussed the topics she brought up in her video.

Week 8: A Date with Sarah Hamrick

Our final larger event of the year, we sat down for a Zoom session with Sarah Hamrick of “The Bachelor” to talk about all things love, family, and career from the perspective of an adoptee. Visit the A Date with Sarah Hamrick page to read more about this event.

Week 9: Senior Recognition and Games

For our last meeting of the term and 2021-2022 academic year, we honored and recognized our ASU graduating seniors, wishing them well on their journey beyond the UO! We also played some fun games, including Guess that Tune.

ASU will be back in Fall 2022.

Signing off! – Zoë
