Here are the meeting slides for Winter 2021! We were fully online again this term, due to the pandemic, but that didn’t stop us from having some deep conversations about birth records and searches, careers in adoption, and how race plays a role in an adoptee’s identity.
Week 2: New Years Resolutions
We started the new year with a casual, get-to-know-you meeting. Members played “Two Truths and A Lie,” reflected on the past year, and shared their new year’s resolutions.
Week 4: Hot Topics in Adoption
Last term, two of our executive team members attended a Town Hall for Adult Intercountry Adoptees hosted by the Office of Children’s Affairs in the U.S. Department of State. This meeting, they came to share and discuss the hot topics from the meeting, including access to birth records, birth family searches, post-adoption support, and adoption research. Check out the last few slides of the deck for adoption-related resources!
Week 6: Adoption-Focused Careers
This week, we had a guest speaker come to talk about adoption-focused careers within fields such as social work and counseling, as well as share more about Child Protective Services.
Week 8: Race and Adoption
We dug deep this week, exploring the intersection of race and adoption. We especially wanted to address race during Black History Month. We split this meeting into two sections: International Transracial Adoption and Domestic Transracial Adoption. In both sections, we offered information about the history and analyzed case studies relating to each topic.
Week 10: Elections
In our last meeting of the term, we held elections for the executive team.
