On December 2-3, 2014, the University of Oregon hosted the 3rd Annual Climate Change and Indigenous Peoples Conference and Student Symposium.  The conference was an opportunity for more than 60 UO students and 4 visiting indigenous students to exchange ideas, methodologies and research related to culture, sovereignty, and indigenous peoples.  The keynote speaker for the conference was Patrician Cochran, Executive Director of the Alaska Native Science Commission (ANSC), who presented a lecture on Indigenous Peoples’ in a Changing World. 

The 60 UO students participating in the conference were conducting research as part of three courses at the UO focusing on the environment, culture, and sovereignty in the Americas. Presentation topics included:

Climate Change, Resilience, & Traditional Ecological Knowledge: The Karuk Eco-Cultural Resource Management Plan

The Klamath Tribes and Water Rights: A Critical Review of the 1954 Termination of Federal Recognition

Traditional Persistence: The Past and Present Paiute Diet
