Program Overview: The Chem-SURF Program at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) provides a 10-week summer research opportunity for undergraduates to become fully immersed in challenging, cutting-edge, exciting, and transformative research projects in the STEM disciplines and including the fields of Biochemistry; Chemical Biology, Chemical Engineering; Chemical Physics, Computer Science, Molecular Biology, Material Science; Nanoscience, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, and Analytical, Atmospheric, Bioinorganic, Bioorganic, Computational, Environmental, Inorganic, Organic, Physical, Polymer, Surface, and Theoretical Chemistry.
Program Dates: June 21, 2015 – August 28, 2015
Program Benefits: $4,500 Stipend; Faculty seminars; Cultural events and social activities; Faculty Research Mentors; Free on-campus housing; Graduate school preparation seminars; Local industry field trips; Post-program support; Travel allowance; UCI recreational facilities.
Eligibility: Applicants should be highly motivated and high-achieving STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) majors with sophomore, junior, or senior standing at the start of the Chem-SURF program. They must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and have health insurance coverage.

Program Overview: The Preparing Future Researchers Program offers an immersive research experience with a faculty mentor, social excursions, networking opportunities, and workshops to help participants apply for graduate school and prepare themselves for graduate education. Participants work with a faculty mentor with special expertise and matched interests on an agreed upon research project. Research programs for summer 2015 are Chemistry, Criminal Justice, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Optics and Photonics, and Security Studies.

Program Benefits: $4,000 stipend, housing accommodations, up to $500 travel reimbursement, and numerous professional development and research-related opportunities.

Host Institution: University of South Carolina
Program Overview: The Center for Colon Cancer Research (CCCR) at the University of South Carolina is leading the development of innovative and groundbreaking research in colorectal cancer. One of the primary goals of the CCCR is to foster the progression of young scientists, and we are seeking undergraduate students to participate in research internships in a cancer-related field (e.g., biological sciences, pharmacy, public health).

Program Overview: Mechanisms of Evolution will focus on biological processes, such as mutation, genetic drift, migration, non-random mating and natural selection that drive heritable change. The goals of this proposal are to provide undergraduates with hypothesis-based projects that investigate one or more mechanisms of evolution, promote careers in science, reinforce the connection between genetics and evolution and highlight the accomplishments of evolutionary scholars.
