2021-2022 will mark UO Admissions’ sixth year of the Counselor Intern program. In this program, Admissions bypasses the usual requirement of prior experience for admission counselor candidates, and permit recent UO graduates to hold a one-year position. The position duties are the same as for other counselors, including travel, individual counseling, presentations, file review, and occasional involvement in committees on admission or scholarships. While the position is a fixed-duration one that can only be held for a single year, selected applicants receive full/normal benefits, as well as paid training/development, the chance to attend or even present at a professional conference, and support/flexibility in preparing for application to permanent jobs elsewhere, or to graduate school.

Past counselor interns have come from all over campus, and each brought their own stamp to their time here. Some still work in UO Admissions, others have gone to work elsewhere on campus, and the rest have gone on to admissions for another institution, to graduate school, and other great futures. It’s important that the interns come from a variety of backgrounds, academic areas, and personal backgrounds. The application priority date will be May 13, which is coming up soon; the position will remain open until filled.  The posting can be viewed directly by going to https://careers.uoregon.edu/en-us/job/527337/admissions-counselor-intern.
