We are at the McArthur Court, where the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) had its weekly meeting on week 5 of the Winter 2022 term. This meeting was a volleyball tournament where VSA and other cultural club members came together to play volleyball and meet new people.
This is the volleyball being used at the event. It was checked out from the Student Rec Center. VSA often collaborates with the campus’s facilities and seeks support from the school for the club to run smoothly
This is Tristan Tran, the Program Coordinator of VSA. He plans and organizes weekly events. In this meeting, Tristan booked McArthur court in advance, divided people into teams, and played. He is a vital member of the Asian student community on campus. He loves bringing people together, as well as creating a space for Asian students on campus to feel belonged.
Tristan is going up for a block while his teammate watches. Teamwork is key in volleyball, and this event strengthens the bonds between members. The meeting illustrates VSA’s goal of creating a community for Asian students to come together and hang out after school.
Tristan is practicing a volleyball serve. He wants to play his best and win the tournament with his team. He also wants his teammates to have a good time in the meeting.
