I thought the Ted talks that was posted was very interesting, and what the game designer had to say.  In the very beginning when she said playing 21 billion hours of gaming a week, and it would solve problems like hunger, obesity, poverty, global changes, and world conflict.  I found her reasoning to be very interesting  because I never would have thought to think that gaming could have that effect on the world.  The phrase “epic win” is apparently what would help us take that step in the future to solve the problems explained by her.  Also when she talked about how as humans we think that we are better in game world than we are in real life.  I would think of this as being true because there are skills that aren’t needed in the gaming world that may be needed in real life.  Although I don’t agree with her saying gaming can save the world in the next century I did find it interesting that she came up with solid points that supported her claim, and made it more valid.

I had a similar reaction to her Ted talk as well. I thought she was coming out of left field when she brought up how we can solve world issues through gaming. I just don’t believe that there is any correlation. I do agree that she supported her point very well with good examples, but that still does not add up to the fact that she said we should be playing 21 billion hours of video games. If anything more people should play less video games and enjoy this world that we live in for our short life.

I also had a similar reaction to this Ted Talk. While I can see her logic, I do not believe that video games are the answer. I think the four qualities that each serious gamer has, blissful productivity, social fabric, urgent optimism, and epic meaning are absolutely qualities that changing the world requires. However, I do not think that video games are the way to get us there.

Will I couldn’t agree with you more. I think that she is promoting the wrong message to people about video games. I think there is no way we should be playing more video games, but instead play less and enjoy this beautiful world. Like you said life is short so we shouldn’t be wasting our time being convinced we can save the world by playing video games. I think people need to stop being brainwashed by the power of video games, but instead be active outside or find a different hobby.
