There’s an excellent chance you’ve heard the work of Guy Sigsworth. He’s produced tracks by Seal, Madonna, Imogen Heap, Björk, Alanis Morissette, and Britney Spears. A gifted performer, orchestrator, composer, and songwriter, the talented Sigsworth has been named a 2016 Robert M. Trotter Visiting Professor by the UO School of Music and Dance—a mark of distinction reserved for honored guest artists and scholars.
During his May 3 – 8, 2016 residency on the UO campus, Sigsworth will present lectures and demonstrations on topics as varied as today’s pop music listener, the possibilities of melody, and the finer points of audio production. The residency will culminate in a Mother’s Day matinee performance featuring some of his recent compositions.
The London-based Sigsworth was raised in a classical music family and trained as a harpsichordist. He made his way to the pop music world and has become a music producer whose collaborations with artists including Alison Moyet, Eric Whitacre, and many others have won him admiration and critical acclaim.

Guy Sigsworth is a producer, songwriter and composer based in London. Without a doubt one of the most accomplished and well-respected creatives in the UK music industry today, over the last 20 years, Guy has worked with artists including Björk, Britney Spears, Madonna, Seal, Imogen Heap, David Sylvian, Alanis Morissette and Alison Moyet amongst many others.
Growing up in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, Guy developed a passion for classical music from a young age, studying harpsichord and joining the European Union Baroque Orchestra with whom he toured Europe extensively. After moving back to London, Guy began exploring production and contemporary electronic sounds. His virtuosic qualities allowed him to develop his skills quickly and he went on to co-write four songs on Seal’s debut album Crazy as well as co-writing, recording and playing on Dancer in the Dark and Vespertine.
In 1996 Sigsworth was introduced to Imogen Heap with whom he formed an immediate bond, going on to co-write and produce two songs from Heap’s debut album I Megaphone. Later the pair went on to form Frou Frou, releasing their debut album Details via Universal Records in 2002 to critical acclaim.
Since then Guy’s focus has returned to songwriting and production working with global artists including Madonna, Robyn, Britney Spears, Sugababes and Kate Havnevik to name a few, his virtuosic abilities to work across orchestration, programming, electronics and experimental production allowing him to stay at the cutting edge of contemporary production.
