Giving up Your Most Precious Resource

Posted in Uncategorized

The present is the best gift that we could ever receive.

Have you heard that one before?

We talk about how time is the most valuable thing we could ever have. More precious than money or success.

How many legends exist where people chase after a mythical “fountain of youth”?

We want more time. If only we could figure out a way for it to not pass so quickly.

BUT

We waste our time. One of the biggest ways we let out time slip through our fingers is procrastination.

Procrastination steals our time. Not in the typical thief way in that it breaks in and steals it without us knowing. It is more like we walk out into the streets, try and find a thief, and then ask if he/she would come take our stuff.

We do it to ourselves. Procrastination is one of our time’s worst enemies, and it is one that we invite.

So, if we want to be people who stick to our schedules and take back our mornings, we also have to give procrastination a big wave goodbye.

How!?

I mean, procrastination plagues the ages. We can just ditch it?

Yes.

It’s as easy as deciding to stop.

Stop putting off what you are thinking about.

What just came to our mind? A relationship you want to initiate? A job you want to go for? A diet you want to start? Homework you need to turn in?

Just do it. Ya, like Nike.

Tonight before you go to bed, make a list of the top 5 things you want to get done tomorrow. They don’t all have to be big things, but try to make at least one something you have been putting off for a while. Make that thing number one on the list, so that you get it done first.

Write that list down. Not on your phone, but on a real piece of paper. Then set it beside you before you fall asleep.

When you wake up, you will grab your list and see that thing. That thing you have been putting off will stare you in the face, daring you to tackle.

Say yes.

Go conquer what has been stealing your time.

This process will not only make you more productive, but it will give you a daily feeling of accomplishment.

Within public relations procrastination can destroy a career. Being able to get tasks done  in time is not only beneficial but required. Learning to make the to-do list something to remember every morning and tackle every day will make some of the best PR practitioners and the most effective humans.

Let’s go.
