Bounce has a great reputation, but I would say they need better advertising and notification of when a class is cancelled. The first time I showed up, the teacher was out of town, and so I was unable to attend the class. However two weeks later I was able to attend a class, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I received a $5 off discount for the 1st class. The Aerial circus coach of the Monday night trapeze coach was a 21 year old women named Nikki Unwin. Nikki has been training in the circus arts for 10 years. Most classes she teaches consists of 3-5 people. The oldest women that has ever attended was in her 40’s, but most are in their 20’s. Nikki was very friendly, and greeted me with a hug, which was very welcoming. In addition to teaching adult classes, she also teaches children’s aerial silks. One of the student’s in the class, Erika, is also a teacher at bounce, and has been training for about two years.
Bounce has two large rooms. When you enter the large building you will find the main gymnastics area. There is a door from that room leading to another room which is the assigned circus arts room. There was only three students in my class, allowing many opportunities to get individual help from the teacher. The class began with a long stretch session (very important). Then continued on with learning a few basic trapeze routines (the advanced student doing harder variations). We learned on the trapeze bar- a horizontal bar hanging by two ropes usually high in the air and free to swing. Finally, the last half hour of the 90 minute class, and in my opinion the most difficult portion was conditioning. This consisted of pullups, pushups, ab circuits, and hanging leg raises. Trapeze takes incredible strength, and building muscle and endurance through conditioning is a necessity to progress in the art form.
