We want to design a series of 5 lessons. Targeted at 5th Grade. It will align with California State standards 3-5.DA.8, 3-5 CS.2. It will be teaching students cause and effect based on decisions made throughout history. We will be using Minecraft, and we will be including history as an additional subject. We want a 3D, interactive space that kids are already accustomed to and enjoy using to teach them skills and lessons that will help progress their education.
Lesson one will focus on the gist of how to use Minecraft as a game and how to interact with the world, along with if-then statements, and if-then-else statements.
Lesson two will focus on The Pig War. This occurred after the war of 1812 and after the U.S. took control of the Washington area through the Oregon Trail. There was a group of islands between Vancouver Island and Washington state that had an unclear treaty, creating a conflict. This is a fun introduction that will help to engage students in history as we move into more deeper history subjects.
Lesson three we will be covering the Civil war. This war took place between the northern and southern United States, due to disagreements between slavery laws and succession of eleven southern states from the union starting with South Carolina.
Lesson four will cover World War 1. After the assacination of ArchDuke Franz Ferdinand kick started the First World War between the Axis Powers and the Allies.
Lesson five will cover the Oregon Trail. A 2,170 that was taken by wagon pioneers across the United States from Missouri to Oregon.
Once students are done with each historical event covered through our lessons they will be able to demonstrate the idea of how cause and effect appears throughout history, and how to use Minecraft as a learning software.
