After spending over two months in Sweden for my study abroad program, I also wanted to travel to other countries to see the sights, smell the smells, and taste the food. Arriving in Copenhagen required a three hour-long train ride from Möra, Sweden (I visited family after my program was over) to Stockholm and a flight from the Arlanda Airport to Copenhagen. A train and a plane later, I arrived.

I had a variety of cuisines from around the world from Vietnamese food to Italian food to traditional Scandinavian food.

The highlight of my Copenhagen trip, however, was visiting the Louisiana Museum.

Located on the shore of the Øresund Sound in Humlebæk 35 kilometers north of Copenhagen, Denmark sits the tranquil Louisiana Museum. Filled with extensive collections of both modern and contemporary art and known for its stunning architecture, the museum also housed a restaurant and cafe that offered wonderful seasonal dishes.

I was, of course, over the moon to visit a museum that had been on my bucket list for quite a long time. My love of architecture (my major!) and my love of art history (my minor!) combined into a truly wonderful experience.

Tired from the hour-long train ride to Humlebæk from my hostel in downtown Copenhagen and from my almost five hours spent wandering the exhibits, I needed to eat. Arriving into the museum’s cafe I saw many traditional, albeit with a modern twist, meals. The menus changed with the seasons, offering something new and fresh all of the time.

Sitting at a table overlooking the bay, I had halibut cooked in a cream sauce paired alongside dill potatoes and unripened strawberries. The fish melted in your mouth and the sauce was light, but creamy. The strawberries were an unlikely favorite of mine. They added a subtly sweet note to the dish. Rather than the wine that I should have had with my meal, I had a Coca-cola that was also quite good. Simple, but good.

My photos from the museum do not include my wonderful meal unfortunately, but they do include the art and the landscape. Here is a selection of my favorites:
