About Me

We often times get asked to describe ourselves, what our interests are, or what hobbies we engage in. I personally hate this question. I do not have any special talents like playing the guitar or doing crazy gymnastics flips in the air. Over the years I have grown to hate the word, but recently I discovered that I do have special talents that not many people posses. I am a persistent human being, and I feel like that has gotten me far more than where my wildest dreams are. That to me, is a unique talent that I’m proud of, that I have learned about myself over the years.

What does it mean to be persistent? It means to be continuing firmly or obstinately in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition. I feel like this word has defined me always, it is a perfect representation of me and of what has shaped me to be the person I am today. Being persistent has paid off and I can even go as far as saying it brought me here to the University of Oregon.

Here is the reason as to why I continue to connect this word to me and why I consider being persistent as my unique talent. When I was young, my mother had immigration issues and was in jail for a couple of months. I am the oldest, and at the time I was the only one so it was such a tough experience for my parents and I. Even after this traumatic experience, I was strong and stood positive through out the whole time. When I first started going to school, I had to learn how to speak English as my second language. I had a difficult time doing so, but I kept trying over and over until I was able to fluently speak English and Spanish. I didn’t give up even when I had language barriers that prevented me to learn. I dominated English as my my second language, never giving up.

The reason why I say being persistent got me where I am now is because I never gave up on the idea of coming to college. I always knew my parents had no money to be able to send me to college, but that still didn’t stop me. I was told that I would be in debt my whole life if I wanted to go to the UO. I applied to a whole bunch of scholarships, I was always talking to my college counselors, and I applied for the school I have always dreamed of. I was accepted to the university of my dreams, I had enough financial aid to not have to take out any loans out for the whole 4 years of my college career. I did not let financial needs stop me from going to my dream school.

When it comes to my personal life, I never let anything go without being fully content with my finished work. Job and career related jobs have always been my target, and I have managed to attain great skillful jobs that will help me in my future career.
