Sketchbook

I work heavily in my sketchbooks, especially when I am unable to be in the studio. This has become an important way of balancing my career in arts administration with being an artist, and my love for writing. I find myself often working with ideas around anxiety, stress, doubt and how we situate ourselves in this 21st century world; a continuous struggle between humanity, the natural world, and the omnipresence of media and technology. What is the “human experience” in the 21st century?

Recently I have been exploring the sketchbook as a tool for mental health and well-being. I’m also a strong advocate for incorporating drawing / journals / sketchbooks into all levels of academia as a way towards a more holistic learning experience. The sketchbook or journal provides a place for connections to occur and reflection to happen….as well as place for students to explore their own ideas and creativity.
