Silk Shorts: The Unexpected Trend and How to Style Them

My latest trend prediction? Silk shorts. Now, you might think silk shorts are already a thing, but hear me out—they’re about to get a major upgrade. While many currently reserve silk shorts for bedtime, I foresee them making their way into our everyday outfits. Imagine slipping them on for running errands or hanging out with friends.

We’re not just talking about your typical silk shorts; I’m envisioning a resurgence of tap pants—those vintage silk shorts once worn by dancers during rehearsals. These tap pants will bring a touch of elegance and sophistication, making them a more polished option than the usual pajama drawer staples.

Styling them might seem tricky at first—do you go for tights or long socks? Do you lean into a vintage vibe or mix in modern elements? The fun lies in experimenting and finding what feels right, which could change from day to day.

I’ll kick things off by showing you two outfits featuring regular silk shorts, followed by a pair of tap pants. Then, I’ll share three more looks using the same silk shorts, demonstrating how one piece can transform with different styling while still retaining its vintage charm.

These shorts look like the ones on the floor in the corner of my closet! Just by adding designer shoes and a silk top they are ready for a night out on the town.

The Parisian:

I’m sure some fashionista in Paris is already wearing tap pants and will roll their eyes when they discover it’s become a trend. But I love their vibe and will always dream of making my outfits as effortless and cool as theirs.

Now, it is time for the same shorts styled 3 different ways. You will notice some similarities between all of the outfits, but each one is slightly different which is what I love about fashion and styling.
