In the image I chose to represent Athena, she is shown in a red cape and gold armor pieces. Her cape and head armor feathers are shown to be red and her body armor as well as shield, sword, and staff are shown to be gold. The color red is known to symbolize sacrifice, danger, and courage. Gold is known to symbolize generosity, compassion, as well as well as being synonymous with divinity and power. These color symbols of her armor represent the kind of leader she is and what traits she carries as a goddess. In the image, she is also shown holding an owl on her hand which represents wisdom, intelligence, mystery, and protection. Athena is known to be extremely intelligent and the goddess of wisdom which the photo perfectly depicts. Under all the red and gold armor, she is seen wearing a white dress which represents purity and shows that under all the tough armor and leading, she is still a pure goddess deep down.

In Homer’s Odyssey, Athena is referred to as “gray eyes” and “owl eyed. In ancient Greece, the color gray as well as owls, were often associated with wisdom. Athena has always been associated and represented by births, specifically owls. It is believed that Athena was always accompanied by an owl on her shoulder to reveal the truths of the world to her. There is not a specific book in the Odyssey where Athena is shown holding an owl, however, it is a well established element of great symbolism to show wisdom and protection which were Athena’s greatest traits. Athena was a goddess of war which is why she was commonly known to wear body armor, a helmet, a shield, and a lance. Gold is a color that represents wealth, power, and prosperity which is most likely why Athena’s armor was made up of gold. Athena’s dresses always consisted of three lawyers; white inner layer, blue middle layer, saffron with edges of royal blue for outer layer, and her gold armor on top. The correlation of the colors were meant to symbolize a flame.

The image I chose clearly catches the audience’s attention from her red cape and gold armor which instantly has viewers associating the colors to power and wealth, as well as warfare. The owl on Athena’s arms also immediately catches the viewer’s eyes which has people assuming a connection between Athena and owls. Upon further speculation, viewers can associate the colors red and gold, as well as an owl, and armor, to have a relation in Athena’s personality and symbolism. Her attire, colors, and animal represents Athena as a powerful and wise Goddess who clearly appears to be a hero of some sort, due to the fact that she is wearing body armor, as well as carrying a shield, staff, and a lance. Her choices of color and attire is an effective strategy to show what kind of Goddess she was, as well as her confidence in who she is.
