On Thursday, Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain led a blazing 400 meters, running the third fastest time ever at 48.14 seconds. Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas won the silver in 48.37, setting a new area record and moving her up to the No. 5 all-time performer in the event.
Brooklynn Loiselle has the story for DyeStat, and Brett Taylor provided interview clips to DyeStat of Naser as well as video of American Wadeline Jonathas, who placed fourth.
American and defending champion Phyllis Francis failed to make the podium in the 400 meters, and fellow ex-Duck Jessica Hull failed to advance from the women’s 1,500 meter semifinal. But both made time to talk to Nate Mann, who wrote a story for the Register-Guard about their races, in which both set personal bests.
Brett also provided this social video of Hull talking about her experience running at her major outdoor championships:

Alex Castle, writing for the Oregonian, caught up with 1,500-meter runners Matthew Centrowitz and Craig Engels, who addressed the media for the first time following the suspension of Nike Oregon Project’s head coach, Alberto Salazar, who was charged for distributing and administering illegal substances to athletes.
While Centrowitz decided to stay quiet until after the final on Sunday, Engels responded to Jenny Simpson’s statement that Salazar should be gone for good. Taylor caught it all on video for DyeStat.
