Women’s triple jump: One jump enough for Neal

Warner Pacific sophomore Alyssa Neal only needed one legal jump to win the women’s triple jump Saturday in the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field.

Neal, who jumped 39 feet, 4 inches, fouled on attempts one, three and four and then passed on her last two attempts. The jump set a new outdoor personal record, eclipsing her mark of 38 feet, 9 3/4 inches set in early April at the Linfield Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational.

Oregon State junior Michele Turney, who won the women’s triple jump at the John Knight Twilight last weekend and finished eighth at the Oregon Relays last year, finished second with her first jump of the day at 38 feet, 7 3/4 inches.

Portland State freshman Ta’Mara Richey finished a close third at 38 feet, 6 inches on her final attempt, a new personal record in the outdoor event.
