Men’s triple jump: Freshman Moore excels

Oregon freshman Nate Moore took first place in the triple jump for the second consecutive meet, this time with a jump of 51 feet, 9 inches.

His mark moved him from 10th to eighth all time at the University of Oregon.

Despite fouling on three out of five attempts, Moore still felt good about his day. “I left some jumps out there.” he said. “I could have gone farther. But I’m still happy with the results.”

Moore, who came to Oregon as the nation’s top high school horizontal said he isn’t surprised at his early success.

“I always have high expectations for myself,” he said. “I always have felt that I can be the best.”

Those expectations are met due to the crowd at Hayward that supports him, Moore explained. “I don’t even have to start a clap anymore. The crowd really loves the athletes, and I just appreciate that so much.”

Oregon senior Josh Melu finished second with a mark of 49 feet, 3/4 inch.
