Men’s 100: Delaney wins second event of day

Oregon senior Arthur Delaney won the 100-meter dash on Saturday afternoon at Hayward Field with a time of 10.39, clearing the field by .25 second for his second victory of the day.

With a win in the 400-meter relay earlier in the afternoon, Delaney set out to take down his relay teammates Charles Nelson and Tony Brook-James in the 100 before the day was over.

The only problem was, both Nelson and Brook-James decided to sit out the 100.

“I’m not sure why they chose not to run — I’d have to ask them,” said Delaney. “I wish they were out there, though, so they could push me harder.”

As the only Oregon runner to compete in the 100, Delaney fired off of the blocks and posted a time that was .20 second faster than his mark in the 100 last year.
