Commencement

SOJC Commencement Ceremony 2024:
Monday, June 17, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
Location: Matthew Knight Arena

Step 1: Apply for your degree in GradWeb by April 12 (for a spring 2024 degree)

Applying for your degree is different than opting in to participate in commencement. (See #2 below.) Anyone with a graduation date in 2023-2024 can participate in this year’s ceremony, but make sure to signify the term you are actually graduating (winter, spring, summer, or fall) in your degree application.

  • Summer 2024 degree, and want to participate in the SOJC ceremony: May 15th
  • Fall 2024 degree, and want to participate in the SOJC ceremony: May 15th

Step 2: Confirm your participation in the SOJC ceremony: BY MAY 20th (mandatory)

  • In May, watch for an email from Marching Order inviting you to complete the registration process for the SOJC ceremony.
  • The first batch of these emails will go out on May 1st.
  • Click on the link in the email to set up your profile. The information collected by Marching Order (name, degree type, dissertation, thesis, or terminal project) will be displayed on the arena screen as you walk across the platform.
  • This step is mandatory. If you don’t do this, we won’t be able to project your information on the arena screen.

Step 3: Check your name in the Commencement program by May 20 (recommended)

  • The printed Commencement program will list names of students as submitted in the GradWeb graduation application.
  • If you’d like to change how your name appears in the Commencement program, please email sojcgrad@uoregon.edu by May 21.

Step 4: Purchase regalia by June 1 (optional but recommended)

  • The Duck Store is your one-stop for all cap, gown, announcements, diploma frames, etc.).
  • Regalia packages are available for order now and will be available until June 5.

When is my terminal project due?

The chair of your terminal project committee will determine the due date of your terminal project. The Graduate Programs Office will need a copy by Monday, June 17, 2024 so that we can clear your degree. Please send a copy of the project to sojcgrad@uoregon.edu by this deadline; be sure to copy your committee chair, as they will need to verify that you’ve passed your defense.

May 31, 2024 is the last day to hold an oral defense for spring term. To schedule your defense, please finalize a time and date with your committee then fill out this defense scheduling form. Please review doctoral program completion deadlines here (and don’t forget to apply for an oral defense in GradWeb at least 2 weeks before your defense!): https://graduatestudies.uoregon.edu/academics/completing-degree/doctoral-degree-deadlines

What can I do to prepare to graduate?

Check your transcripts to make sure you don’t have any outstanding Incompletes to address before you graduate. To make sure you’ve completed program requirements, check the program requirements listed in the graduate student handbook.

When will I get my diploma?

You can expect to get your diploma in the mail within four to six weeks after the term ends. Please make sure your address is updated in DuckWeb, as that’s where the diploma will be sent.

REMINDERS:

  • SOJC graduate program requirements are not available in the Registrar’s “Degree guides” in DuckWeb.
