An Ethnographic Study of the Holiday Farm Fire Disaster
and the Survivors’ Well-Being

Hi, my name is Haisu Huang, and I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Oregon. I am conducting my dissertation research on the disaster response and recovery after the 2020 Holiday Farm Fire. I do this through learning from wildfire survivors about their experience from the moment of the fire to present, and building an understanding of the historical development of the area through conversation.

My dissertation complies with research ethics at the University of Oregon. This means the information my research participants share with me will be kept strictly confidential. Although I cannot promise that their participation will result in any personal or immediate benefits to them or their family, I hope to gather information that will help improve policies and disaster response affecting fire prone communities in Oregon and the well-being of Oregonians at large.

I define “wildfire survivors” broadly as people who experience material loss and/or emotional suffering by the fire. If you are interested in participating in my research, please email haisuh@uoregon.edu.
