I think a clear and comparative understanding of the types of air pollution is important – NO2, PM 2.5, PM 10 and ozone, as related to either vegetation, animals and people.
Maybe start by focusing on a chart with each of those and or each pollution type listing distance of dispersion, health impact to which human health system, ability to measure/ technology, some examples of urban projects around each especially in spain.
Jordi Sunyer has written about the neurological and respiratory impact for young children. Xavier Querol too in barcelona with CSIC.
any USA cities and programs that address air quality? How? trees, policies, vehicle use restrictions? ie this could become design criteria for you.
great that you found data. again, how or can you find points for the data collection?

are there current parks that have air quality sensors in a network? how dense? etc.
I would also keep working on finding sources or indicators for types of sources of air quality pollution. though i know this may be tricky.
