Teaching

A bit about my teaching philosophy:
My teaching is built on two beliefs: First, the beauty of mathematics as well as the critical thinking and problem solving skills we gain from it are accessible to everyone. Second, the foundation of teaching is connecting with the student as an individual with the goal of the student understanding. Thus, my goals as an instructor are to foster curiosity, confidence and critical thinking in each student while also helping them see the beauty in math and what it reveals in the world around us. I do this by creating an open and encouraging learning environment and by acknowledging that each student is a unique human being. I also employ active learning techniques and encourage collaboration among students while emphasising the underlying reasons why something works rather than knowing only how to solve a particular problem. The skills and confidence with which students leave my classes help prepare them to learn more math and to solve problems outside of math and outside of the classroom.
