Simic Family Art Gallery

Just for the fun of it

THE SIMIC FAMILY ART GALLERY has its roots in recollections I have of the artistic skills of our family line casually displayed over the generations. Today so many family members are doing remarkable work. There is Maggie Simic, now on her way to the Chicago Institute of Art with the recognition of a major fellowship. There is Mike Sato, an accomplished graphics designer making his mark. Lucy Nahod has done so much over the years too. Whitney Finch and Bobby Simic have been doing wonderful work as far back as their high school days. There certainly are more….

Laura Simic and I have been sharing with one another the images we are creating—actually, I am not creating originals, only doing forgeries of Monet, TC Steele and others—in watercolors (Laura) and oils (me) as our media. The pleasure we get out of seeing each other’s work gave rise to the idea of creating a family portfolio that would include EVERYTHING any Simics (or relatives of Simics) would care to add to the virtual collection. Julie Simic is the technical wizard who is putting it together.

There have been glimmers of memories of my Dad drawing figures and brother Junior sketching sports figures. Uncle Rudy or “baby Rudy” did some things I have vague recollections of as well. I wonder if those who have joined the Simics by marriage or the youngest generations of Simics have done some things they would share? All are welcome.
