Thesis Statement

 Portland is facing a housing crisis. The aim of the project is to introduce, encourage, and support a live-able mixed use community within the industrial Central Eastside, while maintaining the districts identity as a production hub.

What is the relationship between housing and office?

I will continue to develop the circulation platforms. Essentially I want these to act as connectors, binding the building and office programs together.

Unit layouts would work better with an open floor plan.

Develop units in a way that allows for open North/ South unit circulation while preserving the privacy required for the residents.

How does this respond to the prompt of shared economy

Initially the idea had been to completely combine housing and industry, however after several design iterations the issue of spatial priority became a apparent. Who gets street access? Who gets north light? Views? The shared economy aspect then comes down to the elevated circulation pieces, including elevators and stairwells. How does the circulation act as an elevated street to stitch different uses and types?
