I actually proposed a grant submission for such an adaptive reuse for the EWEB steampkant to make it feasible. You should do some serious research for anywhere in the world using clt for reuse. What are the structural challenges to reuse such as seismic retrofit and energy code? And start with the big win for clt? Why in Portland…local jobs, etc.
Sepetately how can apartments adapt to human needs? How does this relate to shared economies? Or workspace design.
As discussed how does the building flip over in use?
You may want to focus but these are great questions. Again, read the Corner article on adaptivity And specificity. What is the specific change you want to design for? How to avoid the generic. And if so I think you thesis is more than designing a building, it’s about a process and understanding it and communicating that understanding. Start documenting your research.
