Team Meeting 2/11
Today we had our first group meeting and made great progress on deciding what program we would be focusing on! As a group we collectively felt releatively confident when we had worked with Edison robots previously, so we decided that would be the best program for us to present to the kids. We decided we would be testing our project out on 1st graders, but that we could design our curriculum for ages 1st through 3rd. Next meeting out goal is to decide on a state standard, and what other 2 learning points the kids will be gaining from the robots!
Team Meeting 2/18
Hi everyone! Today our team goal was to outline our five different lesson plan topics and try to go into detail into day one of the lesson plans. We managed to create topics for days 1-4 and decided to wait until our next meeting to finalize day five. We went into specifics on day one and talked about what the kids would be doing in the classroom and for how long. For next meeting we will decide on a final project for the kids and what lesson plan we will actually bring into the classroom.
Team Meeting 3/03
Today we met on campus and went through the ed block programming. We had quite alot of trial and error on the robot. We also went through each Edison robot to make sure it was functioning correctly. We did some final touches on the website. We were basically finalizing as much as we could before using this in the classroom.
Team Meeting 3/06
Today our group got a lot done! We had to do some reorganizing with our lesson plans, the robots drawings did not come out as planned. The triangle was not accurate when the robot drew it out on paper so we eliminated that concept. We added EdBlock sheets and a loop program that we will walk the students through. Since we eliminated triangles we had to adjust our times for each subsection of the lessons. We adapted well. Our group edited our paragraph form of the daily lesson plans and set up a date to meet this coming weekend. Sara and Jillian will be heading to field placements this Friday to teach and record the lesson. Overall, today was adjusting to a failed attempt and we overcame that challenge. Next meeting we will be creating our video and finalizing the overall project!
Final Team Meeting 3/11
Today we decided on our script for our presentation to the dignitaries. We went back to edit our team video and add some final touches. We are making sure that everything is prepared for Wednesday when we present!
Team Meeting 2/13
Welcome back! Today we met our goal of deciding on a state standard and our standards to hit in the classroom with some assistance from our teacher. We have decided that our kids will be learning about algorithms and programming from the robotics standards. In terms of school standards we decided on a fun and creative way for the kids to learn about shapes through art! We will be teaching the 1st graders different shapes such as triangles and squares through our Edison robots that will be drawing. We also though this could be made into a more advanced curriculum by having the Edison’s teach the kids about angles and degrees rather than just shapes.
Team Meeting 2/20
Today we met up to finalize our lesson plans for days 1 through 5. We went into depth about each day and we chose the day that we are going to work on with the children, and we came up with the final project for the children. The final project is having Edison build a house using the triangle, and square programming that the children were taught. Finally, we worked on our website Shapes, Shapes, and more Shapes. We made our website more creative, added tabs to make resources more easily to be found, and we added a “Meet the Team” tab, go check it out!
Team Meeting 3/04
Today in class we finalized our meet the team and uploaded Lesson Plans 1 through 4. We spent a lot of class working with the Edison’s and figured out that they needed to be calibrated before we could test them out on the kids. We started discussing our video a little bit and decided that it would include our kids working with the Edison’s. Our next goal is to have Lesson 5 finished and the program for the house done!
Team Meeting 3/10
Today we finished our group video, individual artifacts and made some final touches to the website. As of today our project is complete! both our lessons went great when we tested it out on our 1st and 3rd graders. They had lots of fun with it and so did we. Tomorrow is our final meeting before we present our lesson to a panel from the University of Oregon. We will spend this time making sure everything is done correctly and that our presentation is ready!
