What is Technology? – UO

Just back from the “What is Technology?” Conference up in Portland, Oregon this Weekend.  What a trip. The conference was great and I met some very interesting folks and had some great conversations.  The UO School of Journalism and Communication puts on the “What is…” Conference every year and this year was the best.  I even had the chance to have some of my sculptural work on display.  In concert with several UO Labs including the labs of Blaine, Bowerman, Cresko, Donovan, Jasti, and Livelybrooks, I worked to create pieces that covered the topic like the display above for a set of fluorescent nanohoops.  Similar to Buckeyballs, these carbon ringed structures are hoops and not full spheres.  However, they have an unusual property, the small hoops fluoresce, and as new rings are added to make bigger hoops, the rings fluoresce in different colors.

Here is a link to a video covering the full suite of art projects from everyone involved except Kenji Williams. His work was on display at OMSI, The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
