Physical Therapy

About this Blog: The intention of this blog is to disseminate information to a wider population with regard to therapeutic techniques mostly pertaining to injury recovery and sports medicine. The blog is organized by topic and will work toward either refuting or supporting current therapeutic practices depending on treatment goals by looking at the current research and evidence related to the topics. This blog is updated weekly as time permits, with a new treatment modality. The posts are intended for all audiences, but are heavily based in physiological sciences so some basic understanding of human physiology may be required to completely understand some things detailed here. The goal is to get this information out to the general public so it can be utilized or discontinued in practice based on what the research says about the particular method and also as a study tool for me in my education and preparation for my future career pursuits.

About me: I am a post-baccalaureate student at the University of Oregon with a B.A. in Psychology and currently a senior on the pre-physical therapy track for a B.S. in Human Physiology. My ultimate goal is to obtain my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and work with patients with neurologically-based movement disorders. I am not an actual doctor and nothing I post here should be taken as a diagnosis or prescription for treatment. This blog is intended to inspire you to read more about these modalities and make your own informed decisions based on science and the available literature.

How treatments will be analyzed: Treatments are grouped by topic under the “Therapeutic Techniques” page tab and analyzed separately for their physiological and healing effects somewhat in depth for most topics. Toward the end, there is usually a brief take home message and a list of sources that were used to compile information in the post. You can sort through posts to find a specific one using the Categories drop down menu or the tags on the right side.

Navigating this site: To get to the posts about the therapeutic techniques, which contains all of my blog posts about the various modalities of treatment and the current science behind it, please click on the link at the top of the page that says “Therapeutic Techniques”. Feel free to submit comments, questions or subscribe on this page. You will not be spammed if you subscribe via email. Bookmark the link to this page in your browser for easy access in the future!

If you find any errors in this blog or have questions or comments, please leave respectful comments and I promise I will respond in kind. These posts are simply clinical opinions based on interpretation of current research and should not be taken as a prescription for treatment.
