Created by Margaret Bean, Head, Science Libraries, this blog has served as a public storyboard for design and construction of the Allan Price Science Commons & Research Library.   Margaret has faithfully chronicled the process of renovating and expanding an old and leaky subterranean facility.   The transformation is nothing less than miraculous, a testament to Margaret’s tireless efforts, the heroic work by Lara Nesselroad, the expertise and patience of Gene Mowery and Denise Stewart, a passionate user group, a fabulous architect (Opsis) and an amazing construction company (Andersen).  Sadly and fondly, we had to wish Margaret farewell last week upon her retirement from the UO Libraries.   Not to worry, she is moving to Boston to join her family and begin another library renovation project at Northeastern University.   We will miss her terribly and will look forward to welcoming her back for the Grand Opening in October.

Yours truly, Mark Watson, will now assume responsibility for updating the blog through the remainder of the project.  The project is now in its final phase as the two teaching classrooms are being constructed.  Work also continues on the MakerSpace and the Visualization Lab that we hope to have up and running by the start of fall term.

The high tables for the Social Commons arrived this week.

Oh yes … the building is now properly named:

The lovely, flowing reference collection shelving has been installed:

And the fencing has been taken down around the courtyard, opening up a pleasant view:

Until next week!
