Integrating a Boat Ramp and BMX Track into a Riverside Park

Row River Nature Park, Cottage Grove, Oregon

The Row River Nature Park, a 56-acre natural resource park on the edge of Cottage Grove along the Row River, is ripe for design assistance. The park used to hold a BMX facility next to an undeveloped boat ramp, which is the uppermost public access point on the Willamette River system. The community would like to upgrade the boat launch to make it more accessible to the public, and to bring the BMX facility back, with a shared parking lot and facilities. We are looking for innovative design ideas to integrate these two potentially high traffic uses into a nature park.

The “Green Cities” course examines the history and future of the interface between urban growth and environmental concerns, and the technological, social, and political forces that continue to shape it.
