I thought the article by Rau was interesting and complex. The author talked about maps in human history. They showed how maps can mean so many different things and come in so many different forms to represent different patterns. It also talked about maps in mathematics and physics which I thought was a little confusing and would want to learn more about.

I thought Dr. Dawson was one of the more fun guest speakers we have had. She got us moving around and kept everyone involved. I learned more about our bodies including the heart. Also how we should present information of our bodies to people and is it right to let everyone know what the inside of our bodies look like. We also talked about age and how old kids should be before they know more about their bodies. I hope I can use some of Dr. Dawson’s ways into my final project.

The focus of this passage was scientific images and looking practices are as dependent on cultural context and culturally informed interpretation as images from popular culture and art. I would like to learn more about the origins of photography in the early 19th century.

I think I learned a lot after mt presentation last class. People have good feedback. I think I have a better understanding of what I want to do for my final project. I learned that I was just jumping to conclusions and I need to piece together some parts of my project to make it make more sense.

Scott Draves works make me think about the universe just because of the way the patterns look so natural and free going just like looking out into space or our galaxy. To makes these patterns we uses algorithmic equations and a software that he created. I can’t do anything like that so I researched his artwork and what I think they resemble is natural light and patterns created in our galaxy. Or it reminds me of finding another dimension that we don’t know about yet.
When galaxies collide. The titanic gravitational forces rip apart entire galaxies and they fall back together, forming completely different structures. Interacting galaxies provide some of the most interesting and varied visual forms known. A common form for galaxies is a bright center with spiral arms radiating outward. A galaxy is a gravitational bound system of stars, stellar remnants, interstellar gas and dust, and dark matter.
Some of Draves work looks like 4 dimensional objects. As i researched, the 4th dimension is very unstable and most things that happen in it is hard for our brains to wrap around it.
Definition of 4th dimension- a dimension in addition to length, breadth, and depth; specifically : a coordinate in addition to three rectangular coordinates especially when interpreted as the time coordinate in a space-time continuum.
Like Draves creations using his software he bends shapes and lights in a way that would only be seen in space or in another dimension.

Some types of searches that we did were on the University of Oregon library also we used the arts section and types of filters to narrow our search. Other ways I could do research is go to the arts library and look through their books.
Also I want to research more about Dr. Taylor’s work because I thought it was very interesting. I want to maybe do my final project on that type of art if I could.

Meeting Dr. Taylor was a great experience. First off, just to go down into the building under ground and look around was very exciting. Dr. Taylor showed us how painting techniques can be used to create such creative pictures and how the pictures can resemble the reoccurring elements that happen in nature. I think the experience showed me how similar art and science really are and how important it is to realize it. It makes me want to embed something like that into my final project.

I enjoyed reading about that artist and he seems very interesting and original. I would like to know even more about him and with the style of his painting. It sounds like his painting is very complex.
Questions: What is an EEG measurement technique? What do they mean when they that about “paint trajectories served as “fingerprints” of his motions through the air”?

For my project I would like to do a cool visual effect thing on my computer or maybe something with 3D printing. I don’t know too much about what I want to do yet but I want to do more research on more artwork that my person to see what other works he has done.
