In Paul’s letter to the Romans, his emphasis the gospel of salvation and universal accountability. Romans are a letter of instrument, focusing on moral instruction, as well as exhortation. Paul’s motive for the letter to the Romans is overall an understanding/ plea that he needs support from them to be able to spread the word of god and he does so by addressing universal salvation. In Romans 4, he addresses the importance of faith to be able to be saved and reach salvation. Paul makes the connection of faith and Abraham by telling his testimony of when Abraham was promised a great nation if he believed his wife was going to bear a child. IN the Gospel of Romans Paul talks about the works of the law and he clearly states that Abraham did not follow them but trusted God’s promise before he was given a sign of circumcision. In verse 13, Paul talks about the promise of God coming from righteousness of faith and not through the law. In my opinion it makes me believe that the works of law aren’t as important as the trust and faith that one has in God. The trust given to God is what makes God fulfill his promises to his people. In Abraham’s situation, he didn’t doubt but trusted that the promise was going to come true, even if it seemed like it was very unlikely to happen.

Abraham’s testimony of his big faith and trust is used by Paul to tell the romans that faith is needed for salvation. Paul states that if the Jews and gentiles have Abrahams faith they too will inherit the promise given to him, the promise land (heaven). Overall Paul’s main focused in chapter 4 of the letter to the Romans is the trust in God will provide many openings. He wants the Romans to believe, have faith and trust that God will accomplish his promises. Paul does state that it will only occurred if there is faith, if there is not Gods promise will not apply to that person. Paul wants the Jews and gentiles to know that the promise of God will happen and it doesn’t matter who the person is, as long as the person has faith and believes. This then ties in with universal salvation because Abraham’s faith and testimony is made for us to believe in God and his promises. Paul says in the end of the 4 chapter that Abraham’s testimony was written for us to believe that Gods promises have happen, which then make us believe in God. Believing in God will then lead us to salvation. It becomes universal salvation because everyone is allowed to participate as long as they believe and have faith in God.
