Matthew 16: 13-20 helps give a more in depth insight of the conversation between Jesus and his disciples in Mark 8: 27-30. Matthew tells the reader what was really was said in the conversation and how Jesus is thankful that his disciples refer to him in his divine name but for the sake of others he doesn’t want them to tell people that. The prominent themes are jesus giving christians some type of direction and guidance. Telling them what they should or shouldn’t do. I think Matthew included this section because not only does it tie into our own lives as christians but also what his disciples had to go off of. Matthew is hostile to the Pharisees because they keep doing wrong and doing things not of God. They do the complete opposite of what their told so that’s why they’re opponents of God.
