Jonathan Reeder
Assistant Professor, Knight Campus
Jonathan Reeder’s research focuses on the study and development of soft materials, microfluidic devices, and flexible electronics, all with an emphasis on bio-integrated technologies. His aim is to develop and explore chemistries and processing techniques of soft materials (such as smart polymers, elastomers, hydrogels, and composites), unconventional microfabrication techniques, and heterogenous microsystem integration schemes for soft wearable and implantable systems.
From 2017 to 2020 Reeder was a postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University where he used approaches in soft materials, electronics, and microfluidics to develop wearable sensors for real-time sweat analysis and biodegradable neural implants. He received a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering in 2012 from the University of Texas at Dallas. He received a doctorate in materials science and engineering in 2016 from the University of Texas at Dallas during which he was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. While pursuing his doctorate, he developed soft, shape programmable polymers and flexible electronic systems for neural modulation and electronic skins. During this time, he also served as a founder and research director of Pascalor Inc., a company focused on commercializing flexible electronic technologies developed.

Vince Thoms
Research Assistant- Department of Biology
Vince Thoms is a Research Assistant in the Reeder Lab. He originally pursued a degree in physics, but after losing his father, uncle and grandfather to cancer, he switched majors to biology in hopes of one day working in cancer research. While attending the University of Oregon, Vince worked for four years in Raghu Parthasarathy’s biophysics lab studying lipid membrane diffusion.
Most recently, Vince worked as a research assistant in OHSU’s biolibrary, serving as a liaison between research and pathology.
