What’s New in the Public Law and Policy Program?

On September 13th, the theme Voting and Democracy: Critical Issues for Oregon and Beyond steered discussions at the annual O’Connell Conference. Topics included judicial selection, redistricting, and the shared values and divisions shaping Oregon’s future. This dynamic CLE joined the lineup of events for the 2019 Law Alumni and Friends Fall Kickoff.

In other news, the Oregon Law Commission recently moved to Oregon Law, presenting ongoing opportunities for faculty and students. The Commission’s work helps improve Oregon’s laws through proposed law reform and policy analysis. Executive Director Sandy Weintraub staffs the neutral, nonpartisan law reform body housed in Knight Law Center.

Faculty members lend their expertise to Commission work groups, and Professor Susan Gary currently serves as one of 15 appointed Commissioners. Commission staff is working on plans to extend participation in the Commission’s law reform work to students in the coming year.
