Week 1 Assignment

Please use blackboard to complete the homework. Try blackboard first!

STEP 1: Log in to blackboard.

STEP 2: Depending on how your landing page is set up, you should see links to the courses you are enrolled in. Find the link to Psych 383 to navigate to the course page.

STEP 3: Click on “Learning Modules” on the side bar.

STEP 4: Download the articles for the Brick chapters. Buy the book! I’m only scanning it this week because it hasn’t arrived in the bookstore yet.

STEP 5:  Click on the arrow next to “Page 1 of 8” in the top right corner to advance through the learning module. Or refer to the table of contents on the sidebar.

STEP 6: When you get to the “reflection” you will write me something about the reading. See the prompt. There is also a link to a rubric. It will give you a sense of what we are looking for — mainly making an attempt to answer the whole question. Using good grammar and spelling also counts! We aren’t going to be super tough on you here, we just need it to be clear and readable.

STEP 7: To answer the question, click “Create Journal Entry.”

STEP 8: Give your entry a title, type your response and press “Post Entry.” You can also save your entry as a draft.

If you truly cannot access blackboard right now you may email your homework to Ben. Be aware this creates difficulty for us so do what you can to use blackboard first!

This page is intended ONLY as an alternative for those of you having trouble with blackboard. Here is the assignment due Wed at 3 pm. This course will rely heavily on blackboard so please troubleshoot your access (e.g. resetting your duckid) as soon as possible.

After reading Chapter 1, describe is the difference between use, abuse, misuse, overuse, dependence, and addiction? Compare and contrast the definitions or synthesize what is surprising or counter-intuitive (don’t simply repeat the listed definitions).

 

Read Brick – Chapter 2 & 3

Demonstrate your knowledge by describing a new concept that you think you learned well. Describe it in your own words as you might to a friend.

Also, describe any concepts are you struggling to understand. We can address these more closely in Lecture on Thursday.
