What You Need To Be Prepared

Portfolio Reviews provide you the opportunity to present key projects and receive valuable feedback from industry professionals. You will present your resume, classwork, capstone course client work, internship and professional projects. You will be evaluated on presentation and your portfolio after which you will receive constructive criticism from PR professionals working in the field.

Review panel members will use Portfolio Evaluation Form-286fkd5. By reviewing the form ahead of time you can better know what to expect.L

Location

  • At the University of Oregon reviews will be held in Allen Hall, 1275 University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403
  • In Portland reviews will be at the George S. Turnbull Portland Center, 70 NW Couch St, Portland, OR 97209
  • Review sessions will last approximately 45 minutes
  • Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled review time
  • Review times and room numbers will be on the schedule

Attire

Remember, you want to make a positive impression as a serious professional. Consider the industry where you’re interested working. It is better to be overdressed than underdressed.

Dress code is Business ProfessionalThis should not be confused with business casual. It is your responsibility to know the difference. 

Select from among the following;
  • Dresses or skirts must be knee length
  • Closed toe dress shoes, appropriate heel height
  • Nails and hair must be groomed
  • Dress shirt and tie
  • Blazer or sport coat
  • Slacks with belt

Preparation

  • Prepare and practice ahead of time
  • DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE NIGHT BEFORE
  • Send your resume and a writing sample to reviewers at least one week before the review date
  • Include links to your e-portfolios and digital portfolios when necessary
  • The schedule features reviewers’ email addresses. Use it to network with your reviewers

Review Panels

  • One faculty member and two to three professionals will be included in each panel
  • Names, title and email addresses of reviewers will be on the schedule for you to access
  • Respect the reviewers; they are volunteering their time to review and provide you with priceless feedback
  • Treat the review like an interview

Presentation Overview

  1. Go inside the room and introduce yourself
  2. Mention the type of PR you are interested in
  3. Present your portfolio to the reviewers for 15-20 minutes
  4. Leave the room for 10 minutes
  5. Reviewers will ask you to come inside after 10 minutes.If they do not come out, feel free to check on them after 10 minutes
  6. Come back in to receive feedback
  7. Ask reviewers if it’s okay to take notes
