Pre’s Death

After leaving a party on May 30th, 1975 Prefontaine drove his orange 1973 MGB convertible into a rock wall on Skyline Boulevard.  His car flipped and pinned him underneath, by the time the medics arrived on scene he was pronounced dead.  The Eugene Police Department later reported that his B.A.C at the time of the accident was .16.  His memorial service was held at Hayward Field and it drew thousands of mourners.
