Honors & Awards Committee
The Undergraduate Honors and Awards Committee recommends award recipients to the department head, who will make final decisions. The committee is comprised of a chair and no less than two members; tenure track and career faculty, appointed by the department head for one academic year per internal governance
The committee should familiarize itself with the criteria for each award. Scholarship information can be found below, and on the department’s awards and scholarships webpage.
Committee Chair Responsibilities
Coordinates committee meetings along with the following:
- Communicating with the undergraduate coordinator to establish administrative support needs and to set up deadlines.
- Emailing recommendations for awards to the department head by the decision deadlines.
- Note: Include a paragraph about the selection that can be incorporated into the department head’s annual letter to the award donor. Cc polisci@uoregon.edu on recommendations with paragraphs.
Undergraduate Coordinator Responsibilities
Organizes applications, sends obligation reminders, provides administrative support, as well as the following:
- Save application materials in File-Share folder “Committee-Honors Awards” by agreed upon dates. A spreadsheet will be included listing the basic applicant information.
- Solicit nominations for the Bennett Prize from faculty via email.
- Provide additional administrative support upon email or verbal request.
