Committee Chair Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the graduate coordinator to establish administrative support needs and to set up a calendar at the beginning of the year
  • Maintain a list throughout the year of prospective students who faculty have indicated an interest in working with, if admitted
  • Two weeks prior to the first A&A meeting, solicit feedback and comments from the faculty
  • Coordinate committee meetings and committee member duties
  • Be familiar with awards, criteria, and deadlines
  • Recommendations must be emailed to the department head by decision deadlines established in the committee calendar
    • For scholarships, include a paragraph of explanation that can be incorporated into a department head’s letter to the scholarship donor
    • CC the graduate coordinator on recommendations and paragraphcs
  • Ranked lists should be provided to the department head for the following recommendations:
    • Admission and GE for incoming students
    • GE for current students
    • Instructors-of-Record
      • GE awards must be ranked using the criteria from theĀ GDRS
  • After the top candidates have been identified, send candidate information (prepared by the graduate coordinator) to faculty and request that they contact students that align with their research and/or field of study
  • Work with the department head, department manager, and graduate coordinator on graduate recruitment weekend preparation of agendas/itineraries; distribute to faculty
